Albany NY Week 64 – See Yourself and Others as God Does

“The light of the body is the eye; if, therefore, thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If, therefore, the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon.” -3 Nephi 13:21-23

(This email is inspired by my good friend who sent me this scripture and thought this week)

When we have an eye single to Gods glory, we will be full of light and truth. It will shine through us. When we desire evil, it will reflect darkness. The truth to having a spirit full of light is following the Saviors example of looking outward in love and service. Throughout my life and the Lords mission, I have strived to see peoples beautiful spirit’s when I look into their eyes. To see them as God sees them- for who they can BECOME! Everyone, EVERYONE has infinite, divine potential. e.v.e.r.y.o.n.e. Including YOU.

A few years ago, we did an activity at AFY where we stood in two circles, an inner and outer circle, facing one another. We went around and looked in anothers eyes for 30 seconds or a minute each. It was awkward and funny at first, people were laughing etc. But the second time around, the councilors put on instrumental hymns in the background and told us to see the person for how God saw them. I Instantly felt the spirit fill me and just LOVED all these beautiful children of God! I felt I knew them before this life and saw a tiny sliver of what they could become, and it was overwhelming! At the end, they had us do the same thing with a mirror. We had to look into our own eyes. At first I did not like what I saw. I did not see myself as God did, but when they once again told us to see ourselves as God did, I felt this great self-love and that was the first time I truly LOVED myself fully in a long time!

That experience has blessed me a lot out here. I strive to see everyone in their baptism whites and fall asleep thinking about those I love going through the temple! It is the most joyful way to see them! Seeing them for who they can become! Pure and whole. That is how I see Aaron and Kristine, John, Joe, Laurie and Aaliyah, Charity and all those others I so love… oh! And myself. I have a great vision of the woman I can become and know I will get there one day. It is only through the Savior we can change and progress and grow! Because of His blood that covers us and purifies us and His suffering that makes us whole.

This week and always, See yourself and others as God does. When you look into others eyes, see their spirits and LOVE them! Lock yourself in your bathroom for a few minutes and stare into the bathroom mirror and pray to see yourself as God sees you. See people for who they can become. See yourself that way too! I know as we do this, the world will become far more beautiful to us and we will see great changes in ourselves and in others! In the name of Jesus Christ, amen!
