Albany NY Week 58 – Press Forward, Don’t Look Back

“Put your hand to the plow and do not look back”- (honestly don’t know where that is from…)
Putting our hand to the plow means work! Pressing forward in the nurturing of the great harvest! It means serving with all our heart, might, mind and strength! If we are looking behind us, we cannot move forward with faith but instead, deprive ourselves of the fruits that might have come as a result of those labors.

“Remember
Lot’s wife. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.”- Luke 17:32-333

Many of us know the story of Lots wife. They were commanded to leave the wicked city of Sodom and Gomorrah and told they must not look behind them. The Lord had prepared a much better place.  Lots wife, of course, looked back with longing and was turned into a pillar of salt! Pretty wild. But I guess if she really wanted to live in the past, salt is a great preserver, right? Haha that isn’t funny. I know. How many of us  (as paraphrased by elder Maxwell)  ‘know we should have our primary residence in Zion, but still hope to keep a summer cottage in Babylon?’ How many of us tie ourselves down to the past, damming ourselves from the progression that lies ahead? How many of us deny the Savior Himself by thinking the future could never be as grand as the past? Our Redeemer sacrificed Himself so we could look forward with an eye of faith, confident that the greatest joys are among us and ahead! His atonement enables us to be rid of our past! To let go, to move on, to be free! Now there can be many things we cling onto as we reminisce on the past that can result in depression, guilt, sorrow, pain, anger, hatred, jealousy, bad habits, anxiety, discouragement, hopelessness and dissatisfaction. Whatever it may be, the Savior is willing and wanting to take it from us! Will we allow Him to? Will we hand Him the keys to that summer cottage? Will we ask Him to guide us around the homes and gardens of Zion He has so lovingly prepared for us?

Carthage is such a sacred place in my heart. It was not easy to leave sister Thomas and the many incredible people there. They are part of my family now! I will continue to pray for them and keep in touch while pressing froward and shifting my focus to the people here in Albany and to sister Smith. Well, there aren’t too many people to focus on here YET haha our only investigator dropped us the day I got here, but we have been plowin’ along and I am confident we will see miracles in no time because it’s the Lord’s mission and He can do whatever He wants!

This week I will hand over the keys to my summer cottage in Babylon. I will repent, I will let go and press forward and invite you all to do the same! Keep your eyes locked ahead! Do not look back! We are not going that way! I know as we push forward in this work, we will one day feast on the fruits of our labors and be filled and satisfied! Christ Himself will give you a grand tour of your mansions in Zion! I love my Savior! I love sharing His gospel!
