Manchester VT Week 30 – Go Through Your Life’s Museum and Check Out all the Exhibits

‘Twas a beautiful week! I witnessed pumpkins blown up by a mini cannon, feasted on rabbit (yum), knocked doors for 5 hours straight (without a single lesson) did comp study at a lovely pond in New York, got homemade socks from grandma DeGolyer, took 20 minutes to make a gorgeous hamburger then dropped it all over the floor, made friends with a black lab that stalked us for a while, carved Pokémon pumpkins, painted some walls and did other cool stuff.

“I was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do.”                    -1 Nephi 4:6

Story of my life! The Holy Ghost is a miraculous gift! This really is the Lords mission! I have seen that in so many ways this week! I will just share a few of the many miracles I’ve seen! Lets take a walk through the museum of the mission!

Exhibit A- KATIE. It was 8pm. We were walking the streets of Manchester. We see a woman at the gas station; she goes to hop in her car but pauses to check a text. Boom. We book it over there and introduce ourselves. Invite her to read from the Book of Mormon. She replies, “Oh yes, I really need to read that more often. It’s been a while.” Turns out she lived in Utah and met with missionaries when she was 16. She is going through a rough breakup and court case, has 3 little kids and just moved back in with her mother. She really needs God in her life and asked if we could meet with her. We thought about it long and hard, but we decided to squeeze her in 😉 also she likes Death Cab for Cutie so she’s my new homie.

Exhibit B- RICHARD. Rewind 2 weeks back. We knock on this mans door. He says, “Did my sister send you?” As you can imagine we were stoked that he had a connection to the church. We chatted with him but he wouldn’t take the darn book! The book that is evidence of the truth we testified to him! We tried him back a couple times with no luck. Fast-forward to yesterday. We are just leaving the Finnegan’s (branch president) and get this call. It is a referral for none other than Richard! Who sends us back there but his sister! Haha. And what’s even better, sister Finnegan joins us in a lesson with him 15 minutes later! Blessings upon blessings. (And he took the Book of Mormon this time. I made certain of that)

Exhibit C- BUSHS. Not the plant, the people. We walked down this sketchy dark path to this house tucked away in the woods. The owners of that home welcome us in and it turns out their daughter is a member of the branch! We got to teach them all about how Christ’s church has been restored. It was rad! Can’t wait to teach them more!

Exhibit D- MIKE. We chatted with him at the gas station a while back. He was quite drunk and not very pleasant. However, we gave him the scriptures and let him know what was up. Over the next couple weeks he would wave at us as he drove past or say hello on the street. A couple nights ago, we decided to veer from our usual OYM loop and walk another way. Who do we see at the stoplight as we’re crossing the street, but Mike himself! He waves at us to come over and rolls down the window. We get to meet his little daughter that he loves a lot and he said she asked him who Gods brothers were the other day. He wants to start meeting with us and asked if he could come to church. We again had to think about it, but we finally gave him the address 😉

Exhibit E- TOM. Tom is 74. We met him when we were going to meet a less-active member in an assisted living facility. We started teaching him and have met with him several times. He used to be atheist, but he is now agnostic and soon will be a believer :)) And guess what? He came to church! It was grand. Tom is so sharp and intelligent. I feel like I’m talking to a young guy when we have discussions with him! He actually lives in Bennington, so we are giving him to the elders sadly. But it will be good because the elders don’t really have too many people to teach right now.

Exhibit F- LINELL. After Church, Amanda asked if we could meet with she and Nelson, her hubby at his parents home. We were so down. Brother Clover came and it was a powerful lesson on Gods Plan of Happiness. We also got to teach his mother! Turns out she is a former investigator of the church! We are meeting with her again to tell her more 🙂

Exhibit G- CALLESSA. We go to visit a less-active and what do ya know? We end up meeting his daughter who just moved in! She is 18. Has a cute baby girl who lives with her mom. She took lessons back in the day and would attend church with her father. She wanted to be baptized but her mother wouldn’t let her. But guess what?! She’s 18 now so she can do whatever the heck she wants! We taught her and she wants to be baptized next month :’)

Exhibit H- Ain’t got time. You get the point. Miracles upon miracles.

Pretty much this isn’t my mission. It is the Lords. His hand shows in this work all day ‘ery day! He is preparing these souls for us and us for them! I know that as we let go of doubts and fears and simply put our trust in Him by keeping his commandments, we are going to be just fine. “I the Lord am bound when ye do what I say, but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise.” Pretty simple kids. He literally cannot bless you if you don’t do what He asks. But, as you follow the Lords commandments and He will always bless you for it. It is so freeing to follow His council! He gives us all these opportunities to receive blessings (Family history and temple work, tithing, service, home teaching, callings, the word of wisdom, the law of chastity etc.) and it is up to us to accept those blessings!

My challenge to you this week is to go through your life’s museum and check out all the exhibits. This could be now- today, this week, or it could be looking back in life. Whatever the case, take a walk through the experiences you’ve had and notice God’s hand in those experiences. You could even jot down a list of the different exhibits you see! And never forget that you’re a child of God who loves you for you. All of you. Who you are in this moment!

Please check out this talk! It is eye-opening 🙂 https://speeches.byu.edu/talks/brad-wilcox_his-grace-is-sufficient/
