Manchester VT Week 28 – Laugh Your Face Off

Come, come, ye Saints, no toil nor labor fear;

But with joy wend your way.

Though hard to you this journey may appear,

Grace shall be as your day.

‘Tis better far for us to strive

Our useless cares from us to drive;

Do this, and joy your hearts will swell–

All is well! All is well!

LET GO OF YOUR USELESS CARES AND MAKE THE JOURNEY JOYFUL! All is well! Vermont is stunning. I am obsessed with it here! I’ve leaf picked like crazy! I’m also obsessed with Sister DeGolyer. She is a homie. I think I’ve laughed more here than anywhere else! We are constantly cracking jokes and laughing about something! I really feel that I can freely and genuinely laugh! It’s a great feeling. I was even laughing in my sleep last night, according to Sister DeGolyer haha! Quite a few people told me it was a super tough area. I think when they said tough, they meant FREAKING AWESOME! It is very different from Fayetteville! Manchester is a very nice, wealthy community. It is in the mountains and just stunning. It’s pretty much like a mini Park City. There is a small branch about 25 miles away.

When I got here we had one progressing investigator and several potentials. Most of the work we did was reactivation. But God seriously blessed us! The first four days I was here God blessed us with four new investigators on date! He also blessed us with several new people to teach and more solid potentials! I have fallen in love with Amanda and Nelson and their 4 month old Bella! They are a married couple in their early 20s. They are so amazing! We have seen so many miracles here! One actually happened last night! That evening we prayed specifically to find a new person to teach and to put on date for baptism. It was 8:45 and we were walking back to our apartment along the town streets. We stopped and talked to this man named Gilbert who was with his 13-year-old son. They were looking at the kittens in the window when we started chatting with him. We shared a brief message of the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He opened up to us about serving in the Marine Corps and having friends that were Mormon. He had even read parts of the Book of Mormon. He shared about his A.A. experiences and how God had helped him heal. As we testified of Christ’s atonement he teared up. We continued to chat for a few minutes and I got an overwhelming feeling that I needed to invite him to be baptized. I shared with him about baptism and how it’s a way we can come closer to Christ. I asked him if he would be baptized when he came to know these truths for himself. He said yes. I asked him if he would prepare to be baptized on December 4th. He said yes! We exchanged numbers and set up a time and place to meet! After, he said such a heartfelt prayer and thanked God for placing us in his path. It was powerful! As sister DeGolyer and I walked away, we just started to laugh and laugh! It is my testimony that this truly is the Lords mission! Heavenly Father truly knows us. He will always answer our prayers! Through faith in Christ, we can do all things! Just as President Uchtdorf said, the two things faith cannot do is take away someone else’s agency and change the will of God. As we pray for strength to do Gods will he will enable us to do so! I am so grateful to my God!

This week I challenge you to LAUGH! Laugh your face off. Laughing reminds us that it’s all going to be okay! It brings us to that moment we’re in. It brings us joy. When you feel like crying- make yourself laugh! IT WORKS! Just start with forcing a laugh, then you’ll feel dumb for letting such an awful noise come out of your mouth then you will for real’s laugh. Laughing is a blessing from God! So enjoy it! Spread it! Make others laugh! And don’t forget that your Heavenly Father adores you and He’s probably laughing right alongside you! I love you all!
