Fayetteville NY Week 23 – Knock on Someone’s Door

Therefore, ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for he that asketh, receiveth; and unto him that knocketh, it shall be opened. -3 Nephi 27:29

It has been a glorious week full of adventure and love and learning! I love being a missionary! Time is just flying by! Thank you for all your love and support! You are all my family and a very good family at that! I have found so much joy as I’ve loved the heck out of all those I come in contact with! Yes, even the crazy woman who yelled at us, calling us a cult and telling us she was going to call the cops on us, yes, even the family who acted all excited about The Book of Mormon then left a note on the door with the book saying, “Take your book and never come back on our property.” Yes, even the crazy old man who told us to run away form our cult while we could and find Jesus. And even the man who made certain we knew that we were being brain washed and that we needed to repent before Christ returned. I seriously love them all! They are all family! And it makes for some good laughs! Another thing that made me laugh was Bill! Bill has been coming to church and knows The Book of Mormon is true. He is one of my favorite people in the world. During his prayer at the close of our lesson he said “Thank you God for sending me relentless #1 and relentless #2 to help light my path.” HAHAHA also, we went to a Luau with a huge pig roast! I ate the pig’s eyeball and some of his brains! Yummmyyyyy! And I got to see my soul mate, Sister Holmberg there! It was fantastic.

One thing I have been thinking a lot about this week is all the different doors I knock on and houses I enter. Each house is so unique and beautiful in its own way! Although we knock on several doors each day, we only get to enter a few of their homes to teach them. Although you can get a sense for a home by viewing the outside of it, it’s not until you go in that you can truly experience it. Once you go in their homes, you not only have the opportunity to serve them and help them with dishes, sweeping, organizing, scrubbing and dusting, but you also benefit. You can see pictures on the wall of memories they hold dear. You see objects they love and artwork they are drawn to. You are often fed and have a nice place to sit down. Houses are like humans! Every person is so unique! We meet so many people a day and ask them about themselves, their families, and their relationship with God etc. Most people don’t open the door to their hearts and let us in. But there are many who do! Until they open their hearts up to you, you can never know who they truly are by their physical presence alone. Once you enter into their hearts, you not only get to help them overcome their pains and sins and struggles through the Saviors love and share these simple truths, but they also share so much with you! They share memories and things they love. They feed you with knowledge and are a comforting friend! Both benefit equally! I have had the blessing of entering in many, many homes and I have also been blessed to be invited into many hearts. I have learned so much from both! I would like to take this analogy one step further by sharing the incredible effect of the atonement of Jesus Christ in the lives of others. We often experience this through the Holy Ghost. He is the messenger who reveals light and truth. Much like drawn curtains darken a room and blind a person to their surroundings, the influence of Satan can create an illusion that we are in darkness and we are empty and alone. However, as we open the curtains and allow light to spill in, we become aware of the vibrant colors that encircle us and those who love us all around and can clearly see all the good that we have. As we do our part to allow the Holy Ghost to be in our lives, we can clearly see the joys, which surround us. We will see the worth of our souls and the many gifts and talents that we have to offer! We recognize that there is a room full of people who love us and we can feel of our Saviors love!  There are so many people sitting in darkened homes, waiting for someone to knock on their door and teach them how to open those curtains!

My challenge for you this week is to knock on someone’s door. Teach them to open the curtains and let the light in. All we can do is knock. Many won’t open their hearts to you. All you can do is try! However, as you give them a warm smile and a friendly hello, they will recognize your love and want to let you in!  Knock on doors of the heart! Ask people about themselves. Love them! Bring the Spirit in their lives and help them recognize the Saviors love! Help them recognize the color around them! Help them recognize their divine worth, their talents, and their accomplishments! I promise as you do this you yourselves will have a greater abundance of light in your own life and receive a clearer view of your divine purpose!

AND DON’T FORGET TO OPEN YOUR HEARTS TO OTHERS AND TO THE HOLY GHOST!!!!!! I LOVE YOU AND THE LORD LOVES YOU! GO GET ‘EM!
