Fayetteville NY Week 20 – Fail Harder Now So You Can Succeed Easier Later

Fail harder now so you can succeed easier later. ITS INSANE HOW MUCH YOU CAN LEARN AND GROW IN A SINGLE WEEK! I have failed so hard at times this week, but I’m so glad I did! If we’re not failing, we’re not trying hard enough people! Mistakes allow growth! They teach us! They allow us to grow closer to our Redeemer! I think my biggest mistake this week was allowing myself to get overwhelmed with the crazy schedule and all the beautiful people we want to teach. Instead of being fully present in the moment, I often found myself worrying about the future and becoming stressed with the work overload. I got in this weird mindset where I thought all these people’s salvation was in my hands or something! haha! Kinda like that scene in Superman when he flies up in the clouds and closes his eyes and listens to the millions of voices crying for help. There’s no way he can do it all at once so he just books it to the first person he can and gets to work. I feel like there’s so many people I love so deeply that I want to help but there is no way I can get to all of them. THEN I laugh at myself and remember that I am not helping any of them! CHRIST is! CHRIST is Superman! He has already provided a way for everyone to be saved! All I have to do is follow the spirit and love the people! Very simple. The rest is in the Lords hands! Christ is the Savior of this world!!!!! I need to put my trust in Him and take a chill pill!

The day it was the worst was Saturday. We skipped lunch and dinner time and worked all morning and then left at 4. We taught back to back lessons until 9:30 pm – haha! That night, we were so exhausted. It wasn’t healthy. We were already stressing about how we could possibly fit everything in on Sunday. (If you fall asleep during companion prayer 3 nights in a row, you know something is off). We took a step back and thought about our purpose. We were here to help people come closer to Christ. We can’t do that if we don’t have the spirit and we can’t have the spirit if we don’t take brain beaks and eat food. “Do not labor faster or run more than you have strength and means.” (D&C 10:4) SO we are going to work on that! But hey, it was a blessing to fail because it taught me so much! It taught me to rely on Christ and turn to Him for direction and strength. It taught me to take more time for myself so I can more effectively help others. It taught me that it’s not my mission, it’s the Lord’s and despite my efforts, He will save these beautiful souls.

Real Quick, I want to share about Greg, Greg is in his mid 20’s. He is from San Diego but moved up here a couple years ago to support his 2 year old son Julian and the mother of his child. He is a single dad. He has Julian half the time and works at a hospital the other half. This kid is his world. We talked to Greg on the street a couple weeks ago and got his address and phone number… turns out, its an invalid number and he gave us the address to some Vietnamese man. But we ended up finding him thanks to the Lord! Turns out, he’s just a floor above us! Super funny to see the look on his face when he opened his door and saw us haha! SO we’ve been teaching him the past couple weeks! We see him about 4 times a week! He’s on date to be baptized October 15th! He really wants to find the truth and really needs it in his life! SO last night we felt prompted to knock on his door, even though our appointment was for the next day. Turns out, HES MOVING TODAY!!!! He’s moving to Liverpool which is only 30 minutes away. So we got his *actual info this time and the Liverpool elders will start teaching him there! The amazing thing is, on Saturday morning we felt prompted to stop by a stake service activity. We met this ward member in the Liverpool ward who we thought would really connect with Greg, and now he is moving there SO ITS MEANT TO BE! We will have to connect them! I will really miss teaching Greg, but I know that its in the Lord’s wisdom!!! I am so grateful I was able to teach him how to pray and tell him about God’s plan of happiness and share about the Book of Mormon! It is an honor to share these great truths with the people here! I am blessed to know each one of them! I know that we can learn and grow from every experience and accept that it is the Lord’s will and timing!
My challenge for you this week is to fail harder! Fail harder now so you can succeed easier later! Get outside your comfort zone! Be okay with making a mistake! You can never achieve greatness if you don’t give it your all! Think of one thing you want to achieve and shoot for it! Laugh at your mistakes and keep going! I’m sure we can all think of a time when our failure has lead us to success! We all have been taught by our mistakes. Keep trying! In the wise words of Mr. Robinson, “Keep moving forward!” and remember, God’s got your back.   “Do not murmur, my son, for it is wisdom in me that I have dealt with you after this manner.” (D&C 9:6)
