Fayetteville NY Week 14 – Go on a Walk

The scripture that has been on my mind this week is D&C 4:5 “An eye SINGLE to the glory of God”. We often think we understand that scripture, but rarely act on that understanding. It is really hard to put off the natural man and have every thought, word and action be towards God’s glory. It is hard to let go of the ego and of our own selfish desires! It is hard to remeber to keep our focus on Heavenly Father. But as we do, life becomes a lot more beautiful! Ponder that scripture!!!!!
AHHHH I never know where to BEGIN! I will just share a couple quick stories.
So Tanner. He’s 23. We met him playing basketball and recently got back in contact with him. He opened up to us about his cocaine addiction. He is really lost and struggling. We started going to the addiction recovery program with him and he is really growing spiritually and has been praying. He says he wants to be baptized if he comes to know this church is true. He really just has a strong desire to know if God is really there and he really wants to change his life. He’s starting to realize that addictions are completly contoling his life and he wants to understand who Jesus is and how the atonment can heal him of all his addictions and sins and anxieties.
Zac on the other hand is really struggling. The last lesson we had with him was rough. He went on a crazy tangent and started crying.  :/ He really can’t grasp what faith is. We have told him multiple times that it’s simply a choice to beleive and act on that beleif, but he can’t understand. He said “Why won’t God just show himself to me? Then I would beleive in him,” and I said, “Well Zac, that would take away your ablility to choose for yourself, God wants us to have agency.” and he said “no becuase I could still choose not to beleive in him, even if I saw him” and I was like “Thank you for proving my point silly goose.” haha It honestly breaks my heart how confused the world is. People demand for “PROOF” but its right there in their hand! The Book of Mormon is proof! Read it…Unimaginable joy and peace are at your finger tips, it just takes a bit of faith.. which requires work on your part. It’s like God has this delicious bowl of icecream with chocole hot sauce and sprinkles and whipped cream and gummy bears and a real cherry on top, not those gross fake ones, and he wants you to eat it and be happy but you need to pick up the spoon and dig in!!!
One scripture I have often reflected on is 2 Nephi 9:28-29 “O the cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish. But to be learned is good if they hearken unto the counsels of God.”
Neil is the opposite of Zac. He may not remeber everything and he may be a bit slower, but he has so much faith! He has so much wisdom. He knows that changing his heart and following Christ has brought him true happiness! I cannot wait for his baptism this Saturday! I get teary at the thought! How I love my Neil!
We have been blessed with a lot of folks to teach and have found some amazing investigators this week who are so ready for the gospel! We are working hard! I have never worked so hard in my life! It is constant work. From 6:30am-10:30pm I a trying to try my best. It wears me out! I’ll tell ya! But I have never tasted such great joy! I have never known God the way I know him right now. I have never felt Christ so close. It is my testimony that we, ourselves are nothing. But through Christ’s grace, we can do anything. WE are of infinite worth in our Heavenly Father’s eyes.
This week I want to challange you to go on a walk. Next time you want to go scroll through Facebook or twitter or watch netflix or put your headphones on, just take a walk instead. Leave your phone at home. I know if you do this, you will feel closer to your creator and find peace of mind!!! LOVE YOU!
